Hello weekends! Lets all sit back, relax and watch this overview video of the upcoming Nokia N8 by the product manager itself.

So from this video we know that it has 3 homescreens (why not more?), browser supports Flash, has cover flow album art, thumbnail preview multitasking and more.

Nokia Conversations has recently posted a new video promoting the OVI Store and showcasing a few key apps like Facebook, Qik and Gravity.

The video was directed by Hiro Murai, a music video director who has worked with The Fray and Bloc Party and produced by Partizan, Michel Gondry’s award winning production company. The style of the video is imaginative and fun, as they try to stay away from the typical tech promo videos.

According to Nokia Senior Marketing Manager, John Bartleson: “We want to get people excited about all the amazing things they can do with their Nokia by using the great content available through Ovi Store.”

Enjoy the video

I was browsing through Ovi Store last night to see if there are anything worth downloading and I found Vtap.

It claims to be the one app that finds all sorts of videos from various sources like Myspace, NYTimes, Youtube, TED, Megavideo, Gametrailers and etc and organise them so that your can watch any videos from your phone itself.

I have tried it before this, on the 5800… it was working well and now I am installing it on the N97. Since youtube does not have a proper native s60 app, this might actually be a good alternative.

Upon launching the app, it will try to load the list of recently featured videos by vtap and list them on the main screen. We can actually set for it to show videos of different quality; low, medium and high. It works on Wifi connection too.

The search results will appear as we type our query and finally they will be shortlisted to match your keyword. Simply tap on each result for detials on the particular video and options to share/tag/favourite them. Clicking play will load the video and we can view it fullscreen by just clicking on the expand button.

Vtap works with most phones that supports video streaming. One can also use vtap to watch videos by just going to the mobile site at http://m.vtap.com/

If you have an S60 phone, you can download the app here.

Try it and share your opinions by leaving a comment or joining the community (blue bar at the bottom).

Hi all, here are some of the things about the N97 camera that I came up with after using it for a few days.

Basically the camera interface is exactly the same as on the 5800XPM but of course, the N97 has a 5megapixels lens with Carl Zeiss optics, which is a BIG difference from the Xpressmusic touchscreen.

Once the camera lens cover is slided out, the camera will be activated and it takes about 4 seconds to bring up the live view image on the screen. I think it’s quite slow because it only took about 2 seconds on my 5800.

Camera quality is good, both on the 3.5inch screen and also on my PC monitor. Video camera interface is similar to the one on the 5800 as well, but this only has 3 quality options. VGA, High quality widescreen (16:9) or High quality (4:3).

Overall I think the camera is very similar as the N96. I will be comparing photos from both devices soon, but for now, here are some shots from my N97 and a video at the end of the post. Click on the images to enlarge.

PS: Photos below are all unedited. I only added the text on them.

What’s the latest hype on Nokia now? Well, its none other than the making of the N97 video.

Well you wont get to see the machines or the parts of the N97 being assembled but you get to hear what the designers and the product managers have to say about how the N97 came about. How they tested the slide out tilt screen mechanism along with very nice video effects, sceneries and a very inspiring soundtrack, all in a 7 minutes clips.

The team behind the creation of the Nokia N97 is a global one with a shared vision that’s highlighted in this video. The project is based in Tokyo, with the industrial designer in Finland, the mechanics team in Tokyo, and software teams around the globe, straddling Boston, Dallas, India, China, Singapore. Many of the key players at Nokia behind the product step in front of the lens in this rare video to tell their piece of the story puzzle that fits together to make the N97, including Tomi Kuparinen, Product Program Manager and designer Shunjiro Eguchi.

Watch it now. Here.

I think this is the best Nseries photo I have ever taken. hhahah

Anyways, seems like we are very much informed about the new Nseries models inside out by now. Which one suits you best? This is my thought on which models suits who.

Nokia N96: For people who loves everything big. Big screen, big memory and big size. Haha… well i think it attracts the male users more. I wont say it’s for video lovers cos apparently all Nseries are capable of playing videos. I’d suggest you get the N96 if you are a guy, loves everything big and fancies edgy designs.

Nokia N85: For those who loves design, likes everything that looks artsy and at the same time loves the latest smartphone features, The N85 is more appealing to females cos of the smaller size and the curvy edges. Buy it if you are:
- a male who loves sleek and slim smartphones…
- a female who loves sleek and slim smartphones… haha

Nokia N79: I think it’s made for people who loves quick meals, quick dates and everything else which is fast. A youngster would actually buy it cos of the Xpress-on covers. Hm… well, it’s basically made for everyone. It’s a general phone that has the same great features as the 2 mentioned above. Buy it if you don’t want to spend too much on smartphones… or you love simplicity and flexibility.

Somehow I sound like a fortune teller…

Oh well.. let’s view a video of N96 playing video. lol.

The N96 plays video very well. Now that Nokia introduced the kickstand… I felt weird viewing video on the other Nseries models because I cannot watch the videos on the table.. I had to hold it.. cos no kickstand! hahah I think it really makes a big difference.

This is a video showing how the XpressOn covers affect the theme change on the N79.

Hi boys and girls, today we are going to learn about thickness.

See this image below.

Do you know which one is the thickest?

OK some of you guys might want to know how is the experience like watching videos on the N85…. before I give my opinion, let’s watch a very educational clip of a video being played on the N85.

Watching video on the N85 is great, with the AM OLED screen and the stereo speakers, I can really imagine me watching videos on the device in the future (if i happen to own one).

The speakers are very loud but the sound never breaks.. which is good. The screen response rate is very fast, resulting in very clear videos. Probably cos the video I played was encoded well… but nonetheless, its a great device to play videos…. hmm now where’s the kickstand when I need it the most.
