I sense a rising craze in UK clubs soon.

Nokia has recently came up with Nokia Tube Dance… a set of funky dance moves done on touch-activated light up dance floor.

It is also in conjunction with the launch of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in the UK and with the help of street dance ace George Sampson, Keith Lemon and and breakthrough artist W Brown, comes the innovative Tube Dance.

Check out the video.

There will be a Tube Dance tour around UK soon. For those interested, you can check out the schedules on its website NokiaTubeDance.com

If you wanna do the dance, there’s a visual tutorial too!

We know that the 5800 XPM comes with a 3.2mpx Carl Zeiss optics with autofocus… but how does the camera perform? Is it capable of shooting nice photos?

Daily Mobile has come up with a few photos taken using the 5800.

So what do you think?

When Nokia announced that the 5800 XPM will come with a 3.2megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, I was stunned… cos originally, I didn’t expect it to come with an Nseries level camera.

Anyways, when I got to preview the 5800 back in September, I tried taking some photos using the camera and I have to say, even with its very early firmware, it could take very good shots.

At 3.2megapixels, the 5800 can take photos up to 2048*1536pixels in resolution. That’s big enough I think (although it’s better if it’s a 5 megapixel camera but that also mean the price will increase).

Now let’s have  a look at 2 photos shot using the 5800.

A macro shot taken indoors. (Click here for a larger version)

Some of you might be worried that the photos do not look good.. but with some editing, a good photo will eventually become a great photo.

Edited brightness, contrast and blurred the sides of the photo a little. Now isn’t that a great photo taken using the 5800 XpressMusic?

Now this is an outdoor shot. (Click here for larger version)

Bear in mind that the original photo looks great… but you can always make it look better with some editing.

Looks great? Haha… added saturation, increased levels and added a little sharpness.

Now does the 5800 take good shots?.. or great shots? :D

Hi all, this is my 6th post on the XpressMusic device.

This is how it looks like in camera mode. On the right you can see 5 keys. Exit, switch mode, flash, settings and options.

That’s me snapping myself with the 5800. lol…

Upon pressing and holding the camera key, the screen turns into a viewfinder very quickly. I’d say its probably 0.5 secs faster than my N82. Auto focus bracket is the same as other Nseries and the camera shutter sound too.

I didnt try recording videos with it.. but there are 2 modes in video recording… standard (4×3 ratio) and wide (16×9 ratio).. nice to play on the 5800 widescreen.

Here’s a video of the 5800 taking a photo of the N82.

This is my 5th post on Nokia 5800.

So when I got to preview it, I told myself… not to forget to try the browser and maps!
… but in the end I did try both but I didnt take photos and videos of the browser.

Anyways, I did try the maps for a while though.

It was actually kinda slow when opening Nokia Maps… probably cos they still haven’t refine it in the prototype firmware.

Basically it’s the same Nokia Maps and interface as the one on current Nseries models. Same menu, same search bar, same zoon and unzoom buttons. I’ve only tried the map view. Left out the satellite view.

To move around the map, we only need to use our finger to touch and drag the map around. Touch the ‘+’ sign to zoom in and the ‘-’ sign to zoom out. Moving around the map was super slow. As well as zooming. Really hope this will be fixed in newer firmwares.

Here’s a video.

This is my 4th post on the 5800.

Here are some photos of the device playing a video.

Looks damn good when watching videos on the wide screen eh?

Trust me… I witnessed it and the moment the video was played…. I nearly fainted… cos it was DAMN NICEEEE… not forgetting the super loud stereo speakers.

Now why is the 5800 so conveniently placed on the table? Did you realise it? Haha…

This is because, other than getting the cool casing, this 5800 stand is also provided in the package so that you can enjoy videos on the big screen while holding popcorn on your left hand and soft drinks on the other.

Somehow it reminds me of a photo frame stand. Haha…

OK here’s a video of the 5800 playing video… MUST WATCH!.. oh in the video I will show you where the speakers are… so watch out for that!

Prefer to watch it on Youtube? Click here.

In the video above, you will notice 3 empty buttons on the right side of the screen when the video was played. This is because the software is still under development as the 5800 is still under prototype stage.

Do you want to see more of 5800? Please leave a comment if you do.. or else I’ll go on with some other stuff instead :D

This is my 3rd post on the 5800.

This time, let’s look at the different types of input methods on the 5800.

Basically there’s 4:

- Handwriting (suitable to be used if you are not writing English)
- Full qwerty keyboard (for 2 hands usage)
- Mini qwerty keyboard (it can be dragged to any part of the screen, suitable to be used if you are left handed)
- Numeric keypad (same like the typical phone keypad… good for.. erm.. driving? LOL)

Here’s a video of the different types of input methods.

Hi all,

Firstly, I’d like to thank Nokia for inviting me for a special preview of their upcoming device, the 5800 XpressMusic touchscreen phone.

According to Nokia, the target audience for this phone is the mid range market and youths. The price is 279 Euro before tax.

As usual, there has to be a photo of me holding the device. ahah

The 5800 will feature a screen with resolution 640*360px. It’s is also called the nHD screen because it is basically 1/9th of a HD screen. Let me show you a diagram I drew prior to this post.

The 5800 will be the first S60 touchscreen phone from Nokia and it will also be the most advanced XpressMusic device in it’s category.

Some of the features of the 5800 includes the new S60 5th edition and the latest version of the Symbian OS, 3.2mpx Carl Zeiss Optics camera, 30fps DVD-like video recording, dual LED flash and GPS.

Connectivity wise, it supports 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth and USB.

3.2inch wide screen… dual speakers

The top part of the phone spots an on/off button, 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro USB port.

The phone will come in 3 XpressMusic colours… yes you’ve guessed it. haha… red, blue and grey.

As you can see, the right side of the phone places the camera shutter button, touchscreen slider lock and the volume/zoom keys.

2 new innovations I like about the 5800.

- Haptic feedback: It feels very different from the other touchscreens I’ve tried. This one doesn’t feel like vibration. It feels more like erm… a 0.5mm nudge.. which feels a lot more solid than the rest. (Edit: The haptic felt like a general one.. not specifically at the spot you touch)

- Touch media bar key: Can you see the bright little logo next to the word “XpressMusic” above the screen? Thats the touch sensitive key. Once touched, the quick access media bar will appear.. (the red vertical bar in the photo) and gives access to Music, Photos, Share Online, Videos and Internet.

I’m sure by now you would have noticed the 4 little photos on the main screen.

You can actually set the photos to display the 4 most frequently contacted person so when you touch on their faces, the call logs, sms history and RSS feeds will be shown respectively in tabs.

The 2 keys at the bottom of the screen are dial pad and phonebook respectively.

Now ready for some videos?

In this post, I will show you guys 2 videos.

So Batman was using the rumoured Nokia Touchscreen phone in The Dark Knight…

I couldnt resist but to keep asking myself.. should I get the N96 or the XpressMedia 5300 aka Tube (oops?)

Well, according to Engadget, Nokia’s head of devices, Kai Oistamo says it will be launching a series of touchscreen devices in the second half the year, with the first model — likely the Tube — aimed at the “volume market.”

A photo I got from TalkAboutNseries

Seems like this thing will spot a 3.2mpx autofocus camera, gps, wifi, a2dp and some other stuff.

Will this be Nokia’s first Symbian touchscreen phone this year? We’ll just have to wait and see.
