Negri Electronics has recently posted a video of them handling a prototype from Nokia that looks very much like the upcoming Nokia N8 but with full QWERTY keyboard. Since Nokia has announced that the N8 will be the last Nseries to be powered by Symbian, could this just be the E7… or C7? Soon we will find out.

For now, check out this video that shows off the multiple ports available on the device (including a HDMI port), the keyboard, homescreen widget, browser and the slider screen mechanism.

From what we can see, the screen seems to be a 4incher.. and has probably a 640×480px resolution screen. I like how thin it is for a device with slide out QWERTY and the look of the keyboard is very nice too. Did you notice the 8mpx camera in the video? Hope it shoots 720p HD and that would be sweet.

Best device EVAR!!!!!!! (well to me at least.. lol) Nokia has just announced their new powerhouse device, the Nokia N900. It’s a mobile computer(with phone functionality) that is powered by Maemo5 Operating system. Maemo5 is the evolution of the OS in Nokia’s internet tablets like N800 and N810.

The N900 spots a horizontal slider that reveals a full QWERTY keyboard (like the N97), a 3.5inch WVGA screen (800×480) resistive touch screen, ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor with 1GB of application memory (256 MB RAM, 768 MB virtual memory), OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration, 5megapixel Carl Zeiss optics camera, Wifi, aGPS, 3.5mm headphone jack (TV Out too), 32gb of internal memory and supports microSD card expansion.

One thing I really really like about the N900 is the browser. It’s the new Fennec browser powered by Mozilla technology, supports Adobe Flash 9.4 and AJAX. Other features are like customisable ‘panorama’ desktop and multi-window task switcher. Users can now create multiple homescreens for everything! Probably one for music, one for widgets, one for favourite contacts etc. Task switcher allows user to view all open apps in a glace to see everything running in them Live.

Other features:
# Unified communications and address book: voice calls, internet calls, instant messages and SMS. Includes the ability to merge phonebook, Skype contacts and other contacts into a single address book.
# Ability to share status, location with friends, keep multiple IM and SMS converstions going and move between them.
# Nokia Messaging pre-installed, mobilise up to 10 personal email accounts. Includes quasi-push email and rich HTML support.
# Video playback mp4, .avi, .wmv, .3gp; codecs: H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, WMV, H.263: up to WVGA (800 x 480) at 25 frames per second; WMV: VGA resolution at 30 frames per second; Dual LED Flash.
# Video streaming in the browser.
# Music playback formats include MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, M4A, WAV, WMA.

The N900 will be available in selected markets from October 2009 onwards at a cost of €500 before taxes and subsidies. More info on http://maemo.nokia.com

FCC has just released the user manual for Nokia N97, the upcoming Nseries flagship which is to be out in June.

I’ve read through the manual and found some interesting elements.

First off, we can now set timed profiles, which means we can set it to a certain time within 24 hours and it will revert back to the previous profile after the set time.

From the manual we can also get to see the diagrams of how to slide out the full qwerty keyboard. Very simple instructions. hehe.

Here’s also something different from 5800. Users now have folders view in the photo gallery: captured. months, albums, tags, downloads and share online. Seems like the gallery menu has gone back to how it was in the N96 and other S60v3 devices.

Among all, I like this diagram the most. According to the manual, users have to rotate the device around all axes in a continuous movement in order to calibrate the built-in compass. Funny but fun.

Download the user manual in PDF format here.

It’s quite shocking to see an unannounced XpressMusic phone being previewed so quickly but hey, Mobile-Review just did it. They have already played with one of the first prototype set of the 5730XPM.

The 5730 XPM is a candybar music smartphone with slide out qwerty keyboard targeted at the mid tier audience. It features a 3.2mpx autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a single LED light and a backlit qwerty keyboard!

I’d say that the design is quite edgy as the font type on the keypads and the keyboard look very digital and the built is in metallic, although it does come in 2 XpressMusic colours, Red and Blue.

From the article we can actually see that the OS, running on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 has little new updates and some additinal features are included like Say&Play and there is a probability that it will adopt the Contacts Bar feature from 5800 too. We’ll have to see when it’s announced in April. The price will be around 220 Euro before tax.

Check out Mobile-Review for full prveview.
