Nokia has recently launched a new Eseries to replace the E63 that caters to the mass market.

Overview of Nokia E5: Connect seamlessly to the people in your professional and personal lives through instant messaging, email and your favourite online social networks.

I just got it yesterday and before I start using/reviewing it, here are some photos and video of the unboxing.

I realised that the packaging is quite compact and is made of recyclable material. Eco friendly. Nice.

The package comes with manuals, earphones, battery, USB adapter/charger, OVI booklet and the Nokia E5 itself… pretty standard.

The E5 has 5 colour variations; Carbon Black, Chalk White, Copper Brown, Silver Grey, Sky Blue.. this one I have here is the Chalk White version.

It has a 5 megapixel camera with zoom up to 3x (digital) & an LED flash. One of the drawbacks is that there is no autofocus.

Thickness compared to an X6. The E5 screen is 2.36″ with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) & supports up to 256,000 colours.

Some notable features of the E5:
- Get work emails in real time through Mail for Exchange and IBM® Lotus Notes® Traveler.
- Keep chatting while on the go. All your favorite IM communities—Windows Live Messenger,™ Yahoo!® Messenger, Google Talk™ and Ovi Chat
- Stay close to your friends on Facebook – view their status and send a message directly from your contact list.
- View and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents using the Quickoffice application.

OK More features and reviews will be up soon.
The Nokia E5 is now available at all stores for only RM830. Very very affordable for a device with such features.

Nokia has just unveiled a new series in its line of devices, the C Series. Along with the X and E series, the new line is more catered to the mass market, providing them smartphone features in a feature phone body.

The first device in this new series is the Nokia C5, comes with S60 3rd edition with OVI messenger pre-installed that allows users to connect to IM services like Windows Live Messenger and Gtalk.

It has a bright 2.2inch display and a 3.2megapixel camera. The C5 also comes with free walk and drive navigation courtesy of Ovi Maps. Social networking features for the C5, one of which is Facebook integration where the handset’s phonebook will display your contacts’ status updates. Good stuff!

The C5 is very slim, measuring at about 12mm thin and 46mm across (and 112mm high). Battery life is good for up to 12 hours talktime and it’ll stay on standby for 26 days between charges.

There will be 2 colour variations for the device, White & Warm Grey. It will be made available in the second quarter of 2010 globally in Europe, Eurasia, SEAP, China and MEA. Price would be around 135 Euro, which translates to about RM621 before tax.

Lookie lookie!

The Facebook app for the 2 Eseries models are finally available for download!

As I have tried to download it from the Ovi Store, I failed miserably as it does not support N86 and other S60v3 devices.

So if you have an E71 or E72 then you are in luck.

These are some screenshots I grabbed from here

According to Ovi Store, Facebook ® for Nokia E71/E72 lets you keep up with your friends right at your fingertips. Update your status, see what your friends are up to, upload photos, check messages and lookup phone numbers when you need them anytime and anywhere. Facebook allows you to comment on your friend’s statuses, RSVP to e vent invites and confirm or deny friend requests.

Point your phone browser to http://store.ovi.com now or check out the direct link here

The one app that S60v5 users have been waiting for is now available for free download on OVI Store! The facebook app is a native s60 app that can be installed on 5800 and N97 as it is optimized for touchscreens.

This facebook app has big buttons and very clean layout, very much like the website. I am sure we do not need stylus for this interface. heh.

Here are some screen shots taken of the app on my 5800 XPM.

As you can see, that’s the login screen and once connected, it will bring up the news feed screen. Notifications like messages, pokes and friend requests are on top and at the bottom of the screen are buttons to your own profile, friends list, photos and inbox. Clicking on the green “+” sign will allow you to leave comments on the items selected.

Photos can be viewed in landscape or portrait mode. We can move around the gallery by clicking on the arrows and the Tags button will toggle the name tags on the photos on/off.

Screen on the left is how my own profile looks like and the one on the right shows the comment screen when you comment on a photo.

Wanna get Facebook on your 5800.. or *cough*…N97? Check out OVI Store now!

Tero Ojanpera, Exec VP, Entertainment and Communities, Nokia, spent 45 minutes talking about developing for the era of Social Location.

He basically tells the developers how Nokia is opening up the platform so that apps can be built and distributed in order for users to discover. They are also opening up the OVI platform’s API and that will allow 3rd party developers to utilise it and easily plug into the OVI Share network.

Soon users will have the chance to upload photos, videos and other media to social networks like flickr, facebook, OVI etc and this can be done at the same time instead of uploading them to the networks one after another.

Nokia N97 SDk was also released so developers can build apps, take over the front screen and inform users on their latest updates and ‘new things’. The front screen is live and dynamic. Users do not need to open apps to find out details of things they constantly want to know about.

Here’s a video of this talk.

Ever wished you can have an app on your mobile phone that gives you access to Facebook, Twitter, Google iCal, RSS reader, movie reviews, dictionary and many more for FREE?

Now you can! Haha… I was introduced to Snaptu yesterday and realized that they actually have a mobile app(for all sorts of phones) that gives you exactly the integration mentioned above!

I have tested in on both my N96 and 5800XPM and they both work perfectly!

Let’s have a look at Snaptu on the N96. Upon entering into Snaptu menu, you have to allow it to access the Internet to retrieve all the services. (better subscribe to an unlimited data plan for this!)

Once connected, some default widgets will be displayed and you can remove them and also add new ones from the catalog as you like.

Logging into facebook gives you access to all the status updates and your message inbox. Clicking on a status update brings you to the profile page of the friend you selected. From there you can view their photos, profile and etc. Check out the video below to know more.

Snaptu loads very well on the 5800 too! After installing, make sure you go to Settings > applications > installed apps > Snaptu > options > Suite settings and select onscreen keyboard OFF. This will allow the app to be displayed in fullscreen mode.

In these screenshots you can see the RSS widget, Twitter and also the Movie widget called MyMovies.

Watch the video below to see the smooth menu animations and also to witness how well Snaptu gives you access to Internet services.

Visit Snaptu now and download the FREE application for you mobile!

I was surfing around the net and I found a forum in weird language and some member of the forum posted the file of the beta version of Fring for S60v5!!! Hahahaha and I quickly installed it.

It’s still in beta version and has bugs with MSN. I checked out Fring.com and seems like they will be launching the final version in a few weeks time.

Check out these screen shots I just took.

Once opened, the super big Fring logo is displayed and it says BETA Version. Then we get to choose which messenger service to connect to, as seen in the screen shot above.

Once selected and connected, your contact list will be displayed in 3 categories(as usual) online, busy and away (all services will be merged into 1 list). We have the option to call, send file, chat and many more.

The individual chat screen looks like this. Tapping on the text field will bring up your chosen input method. There are 3 big buttons at the bottom too. Call, send files and send message.

Wanna try out this Fring beta for Nokia 5800? CLICK HERE

I have tried it to connect to MSN and Fring starts to close and open repeatedly… but it works fine when I only connect to GTalk and Facebook. So you might not wanna use MSN on this version of Fring for now

Was waiting for Fring to come out with a version that supports the 5800 when I found the original MSN app produced by Microsoft itself made for S60 5th Edition on China’s Mobile MSN website.

It looks exactly like the MSN we use on our PCs… with nudge, send file, smilies and handwriting feature.

Very stable app I’d say. Fullscreen MSN rocks! I have never used such great MSN app on any previous S60 phones before so I rate this one 9/10. Haha.

Do check out this app for S60v5… means 5800 now and soon, the N97.

Also, join Malaysia’s 5800XPM Facebook Group too if you own one.. or planning to own one.
