A feature that I think many have been waiting for many years. Finally someone from BetaLabs came up with app that lets us customize the predictive (T9) dictionary in our phones!

With this application, you can:

  • View all the words in your custom dictionary
  • Add new words to it
  • Edit and Delete existing words
  • Export the dictionary as xml file
  • Import words from an xml file
  • Scan text files to import all the words
  • Transfer your dictionary to another phone

Check out the video below to understand the app more.

Nokia Custom Dictionary can be installed on S60 3rd and 5th Edition devices. Its fully functional on Nokia E71, Nokia E63, Nokia 5800 XPressMusic, and Nokia X6.

There might be some minor issues on Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia E72, Nokia E75, Nokia E55, and Nokia E52 and has limited functionality on Nokia N96, Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N82, Nokia N79, Nokia N78, and other older phones.

Head on over to Nokia Betalabs now to download the app for your S60 devices!

Another great invention released at Nokia Betalabs, the Nokia Magnifier turns your phone into a magnifying glass using the built in camera. Thanks Mark for informing me about this.

Oh the camera on your phone must have autofocus in order for this to work, so phones like N95, E90, N82 and other S60 3rd Edition with autofocus camera are supported. The magnifier also allows you to take a snapshot of the zoomed in image so you can see it again next time.

Check out how it works in this demo video.

Nokia Betalabs has recently launched a new app called Nokia Image Exchange.

It is like a service for users to upload and sync photos on the phone with the server so you can view your photos either from your phone or the web.

It’s actually a pool of image with other users in the world so you can view photos uploaded by your friends or anyone in the world on your phone and if you like them, you can favourite or comment them.

Here’s a video of the developer telling you how it works.

The interface is very cool.. but I don’t get to try it cos it is not supported by N96 yet.

Here’s the compatibility list from their site:
Tested on: N95 (all versions), N85, N82 N81 (all models), E71, N76, N78 and Nokia 5320 XpressMusic. Image Exchange should also work on many other S60 3.1 and 3.2 devices.
Devices known not to work or have issues: N96, E90 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Check out Nokia Image Exchange now and tell me what you think about it… (since I.. cant get to try it)

As we all already know, the Nokia Maps 2.0 beta is out but not officially open for download yet.

what’s new in 2.0?

- navigation for pedestrians
- satellite view
- new search engine
- able to save screenshot of the map
- sends out geotag to friends instead of normal addresses in SMS.

Here’s some screenshot of me trying out the application.

The loading screen looks the same as the 1.0

The search box is always at the bottom of the screen for easy access. I searched for Astro and the list of all things Astro appears. I then select the one I was looking for and its then shown on the map.

Here’s what I like. Switching to satellite view and wallah! real life image of the map! hahhaha

there’s more features yet to be explored.

Try it yourself by getting it from Nokia Beta Labs
