Was surfing the N-gage site just now to find out that 2 of my favourite games are coming to the N-gage platform!

Go head-to-head with Spielberg’s BOOM BLOX! Slide on ice blocks, blast blocks with bombs, and bounce off springs to solve brain-twisting puzzles and level the playing field. Enjoy non-stop fun as you advance through forty levels and reach your target score. Master the in-game puzzles then design your own custom creations with the level editor. Blast ‘em with BOOM BLOX!

This is how it looks like on N-gage.

Check out the trailer for BoomBlox (Wii version) to get a rough idea how the game will be like.

The 2nd game is Metal Gear Solid, which I think does not need anymore introduction.

METAL GEAR SOLID MOBILE features dramatic 3D art displays and camera work that greatly surpasses the quality standard of today’s mobile games. Players will face the extreme tension of solitary infiltration in this version of the tactical espionage action game.

Here’s a screenshot.

Check out the trailer for MGS Mobile on N-gage.

I guess everyone must have been wow-ed by the latest Nokia offering, the Nseries flagship for next year, the N97.

Now let’s have a look at the interview with the designer of the device itself, Mr. Shunjiro Eguchi.

In the video, he tells us how he got the idea got into place and mentions the parties involved in the production of the N97.

“Every aspect of the device is influenced by how someone uses it and what they need to get out of it. The technology is very much secondary, in that fulfilling the need is the starting point, and the technology is then designed to fit around it. But, I’ll let the man himself explain it, here he is in full technicolour splendor. Your responses are welcome in the comments below.”

At the Nokia World event in Barcelona, Spain, Nokia today unveiled the Nokia N97. Designed for the needs of Internet-savvy consumers, the Nokia N97 combines a large 3.5″ touch display with a full QWERTY keyboard, providing an “always open” window to favorite social networking sites and Internet destinations.

Nokia’s flagship Nseries device introduces leading technology – including multiple sensors, memory, processing power and connection speeds – for people to create a personal Internet and share their “social location”. The Nokia N97 introduces the concept of “social location”. With integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, it intuitively understands where it is.

The N97 makes it easy to update social networks automatically with real-time information, giving approved friends the ability to update their “status” and share their “social location” as well as related pictures or videos. The home screen of the Nokia N97 mobile computer features the people, content and media that matter the most. Friends, social networks and news are available by simply touching the home screen. The 16:9 widescreen display (640×360 pixels) can be fully personalized with frequently updated widgets of favorite web services and social networking sites. The N97 is also perfectly suited for browsing the web, streaming Flash videos or playing games. Both the physical QWERTY and virtual touch input ensure efficiency in blogging, chatting, posting, sending texts or emailing.

The N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more. This is complemented by excellent music capabilities, full support for the Nokia Music Store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days. The N97 also has a 5-Megapixel camera with high-quality Carl Zeiss Tessar optics, 16:9 and DVD quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi for immediate sharing over HSDPA and WLAN. Based on the S60 5th Edition platform, the N97 measures 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm and weighs 150 g. Available ports include TV Out via standard 3.5 mm audio jack.

The phone provides access to world-class game titles with its N-Gage support. The BL-4C (1500 mAh) battery provides about 400 hours of standby time, 320-400 (3G/GSM) hours of talk time, 4.5 hours of video playback and over 37 hours of audio playback. The Nokia N97 is expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 550 before taxes or subsidies.

I have the sudden urge to write a post to recap the launch of the 5800 XPM launch that took place in Hongkong recently.

Here goes.

On 24th November 2008, Nokia held a launch event featuring 3 famous HK celebrities, William Chan, Lam Fung and Charlene from Twins.

Here are 2 videos taken at the event.

General video covering the performances, the model and the phone.

Cantonese narrated video report done by Scoop TVB.

Some close up photos of the 5800 at the launch.

On 29th November 2008, a Nokia 5800 parade cum celebration was held at night in conjunction with the 5800 going on sale when the clock strikes midnight. Below are some photos.

At midnight, everyone was already queueing to buy the 5800 at phone shops.

This is CRAZY! (All photos above supplied by Keith.)

On 30th November 2008, someone who was at the midnight event bought the 5800 and posted photos of his experience and unboxing process on the net. Check out the photos below.

“Its 11:54pm. I m waiting 4 my 5800 to come^^”

“Yeah! Got You!”

“5800 and accessories in the package”

Thanks hidetoshi for sharing his experience.

The Nokia touchscreen phone was released silently in Moscow without any big posters or ads being shown and yet the Moscow Flagship Store sold out its entire stock for the 5800 Xpressmusic within just 30 minutes!!! OMG! In addition to that, 900 people had submitted their names in the waiting list.

How I wish that the guy in the photo was me… having the 5800 in my hands at the cashier when everyone staring jealously behind him. heheehehhee

Among the buyers, some camped outside the flagship store for DAYS and on the day the 5800 went on sale, over 150 people were queuing outside trying to get in. Some who were super desperate even tried bribing those people queuing to help them get the 5800 first.

5800 FASTER COME TO MALAYSIA CAN!?!?!??!!?!?!?

Eldar Murtazin, #1 Russian telco analyst and chief editor of Mobile Review was the first to mention that the 5800 went on sale at the store stirred up a big discussion among Russians.

Some quotes from Eldar’s blog: “Sales assistants in the shop don’t remember such a situation. The demand exceeds the supply now so much that those (retailers) who bought the model in bulk have begun changing their attitude and are trying to order more and more. I can’t recall a similar situation; it is an interesting turn of events. And the last funny thing - looks like in the first week of sales this product can sell in bigger volumes than iPhone at official launch. Though it is wrong to compare the products which differ in price… The way of Nokia 5800XpressMusic has begun”.

Photo above is not real ok… ahah just did it to support this post.

Anyway… Jaakko Kaidesoja, head of Nokia’s gaming operations told Reuters in an interview that Nokia is working on a touchscreen support for N-gage and will roll out the optimized N-gage client early next year.

Other than that, he also said that the firm will take 1 month to consider whether or not to expand N-gage to the Nokia N73 since it has limited computing power… but if it works out, N-gage will be able to cover more of the user base since Nokia has sold 20 million of it, making it the world’s most sold smartphone.

Source

Now that we are done with that…. let me ask you a question.

“Are you an N-gage player yet?

If not, go and create a player name, install the N-gage client and get yourselves some games to play!

While you are at it, add me too.. my player name is “smashpop”…. currently playing Reset Generation and ONE.
